The Migraine

Supportive IV treatment for acute migraine symptoms in appropriate patients. Migraines can cause severe headache, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. This visit combines IV hydration with medications commonly used for acute migraine symptom management after a medical evaluation. Treatment is individualized based on your symptoms, medical history, current medications, and contraindications. It is intended to help manage an acute migraine episode, not to prevent future migraines.

Who Books This

• Clients with a history of migraine experiencing an acute flare

• Clients whose migraine is accompanied by nausea or difficulty maintaining hydration

• Clients seeking symptom-directed treatment after provider evaluation

What's Included

Base Fluid: 1 L Normal Saline - IV hydration to support hydration in appropriate patients.

Symptom-Directed Medications

• Diphenhydramine - Often used alongside dopamine antagonist medications to reduce the risk of medication-related restlessness.

• Metoclopramide - For migraine-associated nausea and as part of acute migraine treatment when clinically appropriate.

• Ketorolac - For short-term treatment of migraine pain after screening for contraindications, including kidney disease, gastrointestinal bleeding risk, pregnancy, NSAID allergy, and recent use of other NSAIDs. Ibuprofen and ketorolac should not be used together, since combining NSAIDs increases the risk of adverse effects without improving benefit.

• Magnesium Sulfate - Used as part of a multi-modal approach to acute migraine relief.

Important

Treatment is individualized after a medical assessment. Not every medication is appropriate for every client, and medications are used only when clinically indicated. New or unusually severe headaches, headache with fever, confusion, weakness, vision loss, seizure, head injury, pregnancy-related symptoms, or other neurologic symptoms require emergency evaluation rather than outpatient IV treatment. Clients with frequent or worsening migraines may benefit from ongoing preventive management in addition to treatment of acute attacks.
