Supportive hydration for clients experiencing gastrointestinal side effects while using GLP-1 medications. GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound are highly effective treatments for diabetes and obesity, but nausea, vomiting, reduced oral intake, and dehydration are common, particularly during dose escalation. This visit is designed to provide supportive hydration and symptom-directed treatment for appropriate patients after a medical evaluation. It is intended to help manage symptoms and support hydration; it does not replace adjustments to your GLP-1 medication plan or ongoing care from your prescribing clinician.

Who Books This

  • Clients experiencing nausea, vomiting, or dehydration after starting or increasing a GLP-1 medication

  • Clients with reduced oral intake related to GLP-1 side effects

  • Clients seeking supportive symptom management after provider evaluation

What's Included

Base Fluid: 1 L Normal Saline - IV hydration to help restore hydration in appropriate patients who are unable to maintain adequate oral fluid intake.

Symptom-Directed Medications

  • Ondansetron - For nausea or vomiting.

  • Metoclopramide - May be used for selected patients with persistent nausea after provider evaluation. Not appropriate for every client because of potential side effects and contraindications.

  • Ketorolac - For short-term treatment of headache or body aches after screening for contraindications.

Important

Treatment is individualized after a medical assessment. Not every medication is appropriate for every client, and medications are used only when clinically indicated. Persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, inability to tolerate fluids, bloody vomiting, fainting, or symptoms concerning for pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, or other serious complications require emergency medical evaluation rather than IV hydration. Supportive measures such as slower dose escalation, eating smaller meals, avoiding high-fat meals, and maintaining oral hydration remain the primary strategies for managing GLP-1 gastrointestinal side effects.
